Important Information For K-Meleon Users

Windows Registry Entries

The K-Meleon 0.8 and later installers add registry entries that are required by several plugin installation programs. You do not need to add them by hand.

No XPInstall Support

XPInstall Packages (XPIs) are ZIP files containing plugins, themes or extensions for Mozilla and an installation script. Some browser plugins are distributed as XPI files to make installation easier for Mozilla users.

K-Meleon does not support XPIs. This may require special consideration when installing the following plugins:

ActiveX Plugin for Mozilla
Cortona VRML
Cult3D
FastBid
iPIX
Java Runtime Environment
Macromedia Flash Player

When installing the above plugins, please refer to the following table:

FastBid	Manual	Download the XPInstall package for this plugin, and extract the files as follows: np_fastbid2.dll to the K-Meleon plugins directory nsIFastBidPlugin2.xpt to the K-Meleon plugins directory nsIFastBidPlugin.xpt to the K-Meleon plugins directory
iPIX	Manual	Download the XPInstall package for this plugin, and extract the files as follows: NpIpx32.dll to the K-Meleon plugins directory AppSub32.dll to the K-Meleon plugins directory Ipx32_56.dll to your Windows system directory (system32 on WinNT/2000/XP/2003) mm32dcmp.dll to your Windows system directory (system32 on WinNT/2000/XP/2003)
Java Runtime Environment	Automatic	Download the Java Runtime Environment Offline Installer, and install it
Macromedia Flash Player	Automatic	Download the latest Flash Player Installer, and install it.

Plugin Scanning

The following plugin scanning settings are enabled by default in K-Meleon:

Scan for QuickTime 5.0 or higher
Scan for Java Runtime Environment 1.3 or higher
Scan for Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher
Scan for Windows Media Player 7.1 or higher

Bugs specific to K-Meleon

Bug 540 - Many plugins only work after loading about:plugins. Affects 0.8, fixed in 0.81.
Bug 578 - navigator.javaEnabled() always "false". Causes Java to not work. Affects 0.7 SP1, 0.8, 0.81, fixed in 0.82.

Other Plugins

Any other plugins should work using the same instructions as for Mozilla.
